FEEDBACK WANTED!

A LOVE SO BLIND

Directed by Nichola Beresford.

A Love So Blind, is a play set in Abbeyside, Dungarvan, County Waterford, in the 1950 s and portrays an era of innocence in Ireland when TV's and computers were unknown and even the smallest radio was the size of one of today's microwave ovens.

It was a time when children's usual entertainment was very simple, perhaps just listening to stories or live music by the fireside provided by an adult nieghbour or relative or taking a trip to the cinema.

'This light-hearted drama captures these times and was written by local writer Jim Cullinane. As the play unfolds, it traces the relationship between Gusty Flynn a returned sailor who was blinded in an accident at sea and Tommy Boylan a fourteen year old boy, and there are many funny moments and the play will be most interesting to those who remember Ireland of the 50s.

'There is an interesting twist at the end of the play, but you had better get along to see it if you want to find out what it is,' remarked Nichola Beresford the show's director when speaking to Pat Kiely recently.

At home in Ireland, Nichola is a well known Waterford local radio presenter as well as a theatre director and with her co-presenter Timmy Ryan, broadcast five mornings a week on WLR Fm Radio.

The play has now ( July 9th.) just completed three sell out performances in the Irish Art Center Theatre, West 51 Street, Manhattan where it had transferred recently after an equally successful run in the Park Hotel, Dungarvan, County Waterford.

It was Timmy Ryan's second stage debut in this production where he played the part of Seargent Casey. He will have to remember a whole six lines of text, remarked Nichola recently with a little smile. Local people here who saw the play recently reckon Timmy was very good, but that he's missed his vocation and should have signed up as a Police Officer years ago!

If you had the chance to see 'A Love So Blind,' let me know what you thought of it by email or snail mail and I will send you a little gift from Lismore in County Waterford
